BGN gets a balanced hitting attack in opener with 5 players

collecting 2 hits each, including Michele Lewis who

has a double & 2-run HR;

Lewis' bomb in 8th caps a 5-run inning for BGN to blow game open;

Brendan Yowler (3B), Lish McIntosh (1B) & Mark Armbruster (3B)

all drive in runs to start BGN's rally in 8th;

Jody Yowler hits a 2-out RBI single in 5th to break a scoreless

tie & then Kevin Miller makes it 2-0 in 6th with

his 2-out RBI double;

Ed Boelkens of SR leads both sides with 3 hits;

Scott Atkinson & Doug Brough make their WCDL debuts

with BGN & SR, respectively

G#2:  BGN, 15-5

Naz bangs out 23 hits in middle game with 7 players notching

at least 2 hits with McIntosh (2B) & Armbruster (2B, 3B)

leading with 4 hits each;

Jody Yowler, Todd Nienow & Miller chip in 3 safeties apiece;

Armbruster & Miller fall a HR short of cycle;

BGN erupts for 8 runs in 1st on 10 hits, including a stretch

of 7 consecutive batters reaching safely;

Lewis, Miller & Armbruster each knock in 3,

while Nienow plates 2;

In all, 8 different players drive in at least a run for BGN;

Lewis' HR is BGN's only multi-RBI hit of game;

BGN earns sweep in what proves to be most

competitive game of series;

Orth puts SR ahead 1-0 in 1st with an RBI triple, but Atkinson

hits a 2-run HR in 4th to cap a 4-run inning that puts

BGN in front to stay;

Brendan Yowler makes it 5-1 with his RBI triple in 7th, but

SR rallies for 3 in its half of frame to cut deficit to 1 run as

Orth has another triple (this time driving in a pair of runs)

& Lori Dewyre scores him with a single;

Mike Barbour's 2-out RBI double in 9th gives

BGN a much-needed insurance tally;

NR's offense clicks in opener, but mainly in later innings;

Ken Rahe gives B#1 a 1-0 lead in 1st with a 2-out RBI triple

& his club pushes advantage to 2 runs in 3rd when Mel Karns

delivers a 2-out RBI 3-bagger;

NR starts chipping away in 4th when Sonny Castillo hits

a lead-off HR & then Castillo ties it in 6th with a 1-out RBI triple;

NR posts 2 in 7th to grab lead for good as Jim Dobson &

Ryan Chamberlain produce RBI singles;

NR puts game to bed in 8th with 3 more tallies on RBI hits

Dave Helm (1B) & Scott Samson (1B);

Sieving, Andrew Kreais (2B), Helm & Samson all produce

clutch 2-out hits in 8th;

Helm (2B) & Reynolds (3B) both have 3 hits for B#1, while

Schuerman & Rahe produce 2 triples apiece;

Zion breaks open a 1-run game with 3 tallies in both

8th & 9th innings en route to shutout victory;

Curt Juergens & Mike Moenter each post 3 hits for Zion;

Dan Meyer leads guests with 3 RBI, including an RBI

double in 1st that stands as game winner;

Meyer also hits a 2-run double in 8th;

Moenter drives in a run in each of last 2 innings;

Jessie Sundemeier makes his WCDL debut for Zion &

Charles Krawetzke does likewise for SGU;

SGU has just 5 hits in opener

G#2:  SGU, 6-2

Jim Bowe leads SGU with 4 hits (all doubles), while

Gary Evers chips in 3 doubles of his own;

As a team, SGU produces 12 doubles of its 13 hits;

SGU grabs an early lead in 1st on RBI 2-sackers by Bowe &

Bob Marsh & later extends lead to 4 in 3rd on run-scoring

deuces by Marsh & Don Young;

ZL gets its only runs of game in 4th on an RBI triple by Andy Lang

& a follow-up single by Dick Eilert;

SGU closes scoring with back-to-back RBI doubles by

Young & Evers in 9th;

Eilert equals Bowe with 4 hits, while Lang has 3

SGU strikes for 5 runs in 5th, but needs a 1-out, walk-off triple

by Gene Fairbanks in 9th to win it;

Young (2B), Evers (2-run HR) & Fairbanks (2-run HR in his 1st at bat of night) drive in SGU's runs in explosive frame;

Zion puts together an impressive rally in 9th to tie it;

Mike Hoelter knocks in his team's 1st run with a 1-out,

Down to its last out, pinch hitters Meyer & Rick Nelson deliver

G#1:  PM, 4-2

PM gets on board 1st on Tom Jividen's 2-out RBI double in 5th,

but BGC responds for pair on Jim Meyer's 2-run HR

a half inning later;

PM regains lead in 8th on an RBI double by Grace Jividen &

a 2-out RBI single by Rick Ward;

PM adds an insurance tally in 9th on another RBI double

(with 2 outs) by Grace Jividen;

Ward & Tom Jividen (2 RBI) have 3 hits each for PM,

while Rick Traver & Ben Peters pace BGC with 2 safeties

G#2:  PM, 5-4 (10 innings)

After BGC takes lead in 9th of middle game, PM counters with a

2-run 9th of its own for a walk-off win;

Alex Ward delivers big hit, a 2-out RBI single, after Darren Pash

ties it 2 batters earlier with a 1-out RBI triple;

BGC scores 2 in 2nd on another 2-run HR by Meyer,

this time with 2 outs;

BGC makes it 3-0 in 4th when Ralph Aufdenkamp produces

a 2-out RBI triple;

PM uses a 3-run 4th to tie game as Pash delivers a big 2-run,

2-out triple & Tom Jividen plates him with a single;

Pash finishes with 4 hits & Ward with 3;

Ron Merritt also has 3 hits for BGC

G#3:  PM, 6-3

BGC takes a 3-0 lead in 1st on 4 hits, but would go hit-less

rest of way with last 25 batters going down in order starting

with a DP to end 1st inning;

BGC gets its runs on RBI hits from Craig Kleine (1B),

Seth Peters (3B) & Jerry Charles (2B);

Arron Brockschmidt's 2-out, 3-run bomb ties it in 4th for PM;

Paul Spicer's bases-loaded single in 5th gives PM lead for good;

Dave Avery & transfer Bill Bosworth each add 3 hits for Trinity

with Bosworth hitting a solo HR in his 1st at bat with his new club;

Bosworth finishes contest with 2 RBI, including an RBI single in 2nd;

TUM scores 2 in 1st & never looks back;

Dana Krazter's 2-out RBI single in 1st proves to be deciding hit;

Todd Kurfess has 3 of BGSM's 6 hits;

John Kunstmann accounts for hosts lone run with an

RBI triple in 4th

BGSM uses a late 2-run rally to capture middle contest;

Trailing 2-1 entering 8th, Roger Hayward & Tom Lemmerbrock

Hayward connects on a bases-loaded single in 9th for

his team's final tally;

Larry Zimmerman gives BGSM its 1st lead of season with

Trinity regains its offensive prowess in finale, scoring 4 times

in opening stanza;

Mike Farr (3B), Ruthenberg (1B), Kratzer (3B) & Parish (1B)

all drive home runs in 1st;

Kratzer & Parish connect on back-to-back jacks in 3rd after

BGSM narrows gap to 1 run after 2 innings of play;

Janes leads both sides with 5 hits, including an RBI single in 5th;

Ruthenberg (2B), Kratzer (3B, HR) & Parish (2B, HR) each

produce 3 hits with Kratzer & Parish just missing hitting for cycles;

Gary Manning drives in pair on a double in 8th for TUM;

Kurfess has 3 more hits for BGSM;

with Keiser belting a pair of 2-run bombs in 5th & 9th;

Gerwin drives in pair, including a run-scoring triple in

opening frame;

Big 6-run, 6th inning for B#2 breaks open a 2-2 deadlock;

Mike O'Brien, Ken Finley & Ford each have RBI triples in

deciding stanza;

Visitors salvage series with 1-run victory in finale as Will Tezak's

2-out triple in 6th proves to be difference in snapping a 2-2 tie;

Troutt, Steve Williams & Chester Griswold each have 2 hits

to pace PP with Griswold knocking in 2 on a pair of RBI triples

in 2nd & 4th innings;
