 BG Nazarene holds serve ... 

 rallies to win pair at Bethlehem #1; 

 Salem Grace United keeps pace with 2 wins; 

 BG St. Mark's pulls off another upset, 

 winning series from 2nd-place BG Cloverdale; 

 Pemberville Methodist wins twice in battle 

 of 3rd-place teams; 

 "Sluggish" Trinity keeps winning, 

 now only 2 out of 3rd; 

 New Rochester bypasses Zion Luckey 

 in standings with series win

Bethlehem #2 (1) at Pemberville Methodist (2)

PM maintains 3rd-place standing with series victory

G#1:  PM, 6-2

Darren Pash collects consecutive hits in his final 6 trips

to line to lead PM's 23-hit attack;

Alex Ward (RBI) adds 5 hits & Rick Ward (2 RBI) contributes 4;

Arron Brockschmidt also drives home 2 runs for hosts;

PM gets 3 runs in 4th & never trails, eventually building a

6-0 lead before B#2 breaks its scoring drought on a

Duane Peters RBI triple in 7th;

Mike O'Brien leads B#2 with 4 hits

G#2:  B#2, 8-7 (10 innings)

After uncharacteristically going hit less in his 1st 10 series

at bats, Ken Finley comes through with a 2-out, walk-off

double to win it in extras;

B#2 leads 4-0 early, but PM storms back to build a 7-5 lead

before John Keiser's 2-run HR in 7th ties it;

Pepper Martin leads B#2 with 4 hits (2B, RBI);

Rick Ward (3-2B, RBI), Pash (2 RBI) & Alex Ward (3B, 3 RBI)

have 4 hits apiece with AW's triple in 7th giving PM its

1st lead of contest

G#3:  PM, 5-0

Tom Jividen (2 RBI) & Alex Ward (RBI) spark PM's

offense with 4 hits each;

PM's 4 runs in 2nd would be more than enough to earn

win in finale

B#2 drops to 26-22; PM improves to 27-21

BG Cloverdale (1) at BG St. Mark's (2)

BGSM wins 2nd series in a row against league's "Top Two"

G#1:  BGC, 3-2

BGC builds a 3-0 lead in 4th & hangs on for win;

Paul Wachter has a RBI double in 2nd & Rick Traver belts a

2-out, 2-run HR 2 innings later;

Marilyn Shepperd hits a RBI double in 4th for BGSM &

hosts then close to within a run in 6th on John Kunstmann's HR;

BGSM strands tying runner at 2nd in 9th;

BGC's Ron Merritt leads both sides with 3 hits

G#2:  BGSM, 5-0

Larry Zimmerman hits a lead-off HR in 1st

& BGSM never looks back;

A 4-run 8th inning puts game away as Keith Miller &

Roger Hayward both hit 2-out, 2-run HRs;

Todd Kurfess has 3 hits for BGSM

G#3:  BGSM, 3-1

Zimmerman hits another solo HR to give BGSM a 1-0

lead in 3rd & Mark Henning follows an inning later

with a 2-run shot to help hosts to back-to-back victories;

BGC manages just 2 hits (including an error) in finale

as offense stays chilly, producing just 8 hits (2 E's)

over last 21 innings of series;

Ralph Aufdenkamp's solo HR in 8th ends BGC's scoring

drought at 19 innings

BGC dips to 28-20; BGSM goes to 16-32

SGU makes it 2 series wins in last 3 weeks; takes 5 from SR on year

G#1:  SGU, 4-2

Tied 1-1 entering 9th, SGU fashions a 3-run inning &

then holds on for victory;

Jim Bowe (RBI 2B) & Chris Lockoski (2-run HR) spark rally in 9th;

Don Young leads SGU with 3 doubles;

Gary Evers starts game with a lead-off HR;

Steve Kurfess (solo HR in 2nd) & Doug Brough (RBI 1B in 9th)

account for SR's lone tallies

G#2:  SGU, 3-0

Bowe's RBI 2-sacker in 1st stanza proves to be winning hit;

Evers hits 2nd solo HR of evening in 4th to double cushion;

Young puts SGU ahead by 3 with a RBI single in 6th;

Young also hits his 4th deuce of night

G#3:  SR, 4-1

SR wins 1st game in season series with victory in finale;

Lockoski gives SGU a 1-0 advantage in 2nd with a RBI double,

but SR scores game's final 4 runs;

A Rick Lees RBI triple ties contest in 4th;

Back-to-back RBI hits by Jerry Sandwisch (1B) &

Larry Michel (3B) give hosts 1st lead of night;

A run-scoring double by Kurfess in 8th ends scoring;

Lees (3B) & Kurfess (2B, 3B, E) both collect 3 hits

SGU ups mark to 27-21; SR slides to 16-32

NR wins for 6th time in last 9 games; takes season series, 4-2

G#1:  NR, 7-1

NR builds a 7-0 lead before Zion breaks shut out in 9th;

Sonny Castillo has 4 hits for guests, while Adam Snyder

drives in 3 runs on a RBI single, double & triple;

Dave Snyder knocks in pair on a 2-run double in

NR's 4-run 3rd inning;

Andy Lang plates Zion's lone run

G#2:  ZL, 4-2

Down 2-1 entering 8th, Zion strikes for 3 runs to earn victory;

Rick Nelson rallies troops with a 3-run HR;

Dick Eilert & Curt Juergens both net 3 singles as does

Ryan Chamberlain of NR;

Gary Chamberlain (2B) & Russ Siek (HR) knock in NR's

runs with RBI hits in 4th & 7th innings, respectively;

Dan Meyer's RBI double in 2nd gives Zion an early 1-0 advantage

G#3:  NR, 10-2

NR bangs out 20 hits in finale to gain series win;

Jim Dobson, Stev Bockbrader, Adam Snyder & Ron Primeau

each register 3 hits for visitors;

Dave Snyder drives in 2 more on a pair of RBI doubles

in 3rd & 5th frames, while Dobson also has 2 RBI on a triple

in 4th & a solo HR in 6th;

Lang hits solo HRs for Zion in 4th & 7th innings with his last

cutting NR's lead to 4 runs;

However, a big 4-run 8th puts game away for NR;

Lang also adds a double to finish game with 3 hits

NR climbs to 25-23; ZL settles at 24-24

BG Trinity United (2) at Pemberville Presbyterian (1)

Trinity captures 6th series in last 7 tries

G#1:  PP, 2-1

Mike Farr gives Trinity a 1-0 lead in 1st, but guests

would score no more;

PP ekes out win on solo HRs by Ron Curtis in 4th

Dale Fahle in 6th;

Dave Avery has 3 hits for TUM & Chris Tezak

a pair of doubles for PP

G#2:  TUM, 1-0

Both teams manage but 5 hits each & Gary Manning's

solo HR in 7th proves to be game's lone run;

Manning leads TUM offense with pair of extra-base hits

G#3:  TUM, 5-3

Trinity uses 4 solo HRs in finale to "power" past hosts;

Avery hits bombs in 1st & 5th frames, while Brad Kratzer

& Manning open 2nd inning with consecutive jacks;

Tezak hits a 2-run HR in 3rd for PP & Al Troutt's

center strike in 6th pulls PP to within 4-3;

TUM adds an insurance tally in 8th on a Farr RBI triple,

scoring Avery who reached on an error hit;

Avery finishes game with 3 safeties & Jim Jones

paces PP with 3 singles

Trinity moves to 25-23; PP slips to 16-32

BG Nazarene (2) at Bethlehem #1 (1)

BGN regains winning ways; claims 6th series in last 7 outings

G#1:  B#1, 3-0

League'e top run-producing unit goes dry & B#1, despite

being out hit, capitalizes for win in opener;

BGN strands all 10 of its base runners, including a

promising bases-loaded rally in 3rd;

Ken Rahe's 2-run triple in 6th breaks a scoreless deadlock

& Mel Karns immediately follows with a RBI single for

game's final tally

G#2:  BGN, 11-1

A lineup shakeup brings new life into BGN's attack as team

responds with 11 runs on 17 hits;

Ahead just 2-1 entering its 3rd, BGN strikes for 4 to pull

away for victory;

Mark Armbruster's 2-run triple starts rally & RBI deuces

by Bernie Blasius & Lish McIntosh soon follow;

Blasius ends game with 4 RBI, including a 2-run bomb in 2nd

& another RBI double in 7th;

Todd Nienow, who along with Blasius has 3 hits, strokes

a RBI 3-bagger in 4th & a RBI 2-sacker in 8th;

McIntosh also finishes contest with 2 RBI

G#3:  BGN; 9-2

Down 1-0 after a half inning of play, BGN rallies to eventually

take a 5-1 advantage;

A Dave Helm solo HR in 7th cuts B#1's deficit to 3 runs, but

BGN closes game with 4 more tallies;

Rahe's 2-out triple, following a double play, salvages

B#1's opening stanza, but Armbruster's 2-run triple

in 1st gives BGN lead for good;

Armbruster finishes game with 3 RBI;

Michelle Lewis also drives in 3 runs for visitors on a 2-run

HR in 2nd & RBI double in 8th;

Coming off bench, Barbour drives in pair on a 9th-inning deuce;

BGN's Jody Yowler leads both sides with 4 hits

BGN improves to 32-16; B#1 drops to 26-22
