 for 16th time in last 23 

 games to keep pressure on front-running 

 Salem Grace United; 

 Pemberville Methodist & Bethlehem #1 

 draw even with BG Nazarene for 3rd place; 

 Bethlehem #2 remains in mix with 15th win 

Stony Ridge (1) at Zion Luckey (2)

Zion wins back-to-back series for 1st time this season after

terrible start in opening game

G#1:  SR, 11-1

Steve Kurfess drives in 5 of team's 11 runs, including a

2-out, 3-run HR in 4th to put SR ahead 9-0;

Kurfess also hits a 2-run, 2-out double in opening stanza;

Lori Dewyre & Fred Swihart have 2 RBI each for SR with Dewyre hitting a bases-loaded single in 1st & a RBI double in 5th;

Swihart hits a bases-filled 2-sacker in club's big 5-run 4th inning;

Converted lefty, Earl Hagg drills a 2-out HR in 9th

for team's final run;

Doug Brough accounts for SR's other RBI with a 2-out,

bases-loaded single in 1st;

Zion musters but 5 hits with its lone run coming via a

Brian Burrell lead-off HR in 7th with team trailing by 10;

SR finishes game with 19 hits, including 4 by Larry Michel

G#2:  ZL, 3-1

Zion gets all 3 of its runs in 6th on a bases-loaded single

by Rick Nelson & a 2-run double just 2 batters later

by Dan Meyer with 2 down;

Swihart's 2-out, RBI triple in 7th makes it 3-1,

but SR can't generate any more offense;

Zion's Mike Moenter has a game-high 4 hits

G#3:  ZL, 9-8

Zion comes out on top in a back & force battle that features

2 ties  & 6 lead changes

(1-0 ZL/1st, 1-1/4th, 2-1 SR/5th, 5-2 ZL/5th, 6-5 SR/6th,

Nelson has 4 hits (2-2B, 2-3B) & 4 RBI for Zion;

Nelson strokes RBI triples in both 1st & 9th innings;

Andy Lang follows Nelson's last triple with a walk-off single

Moenter produces 4 more hits, including a 2-out,

Kurfess' solo shot leads off 5th & then he smacks a 2-run

center finder in 6th, 2 shooters after Swihart goes yard

driving in a pair;

Dewyre plates 3 runs for SR, including 2 on a 2-out triple in 9th

that gives team its final advantage;

Her bases-load single earlier game ties at 1-1 in 4th;

Dewyre & Ed Boelkens lead team in hits with 3 each

SR falls to 7-20; Zion improves to 13-14

B#2 grabs 7th win in last 10 games

G#1:  BGN, 11-7

Naz jumps out to an 8-0 lead after 2 innings then holds off

a middle-inning B#2 charge;

BGN gets 2 in opening frame on a RBI double by Mike Barbour &

a 2-out run-scoring single by Kevin Miller;

A big 6-run 2nd puts BGN solidly in front sparked by a

3-run bomb by Jody Yowler;

Mark Armbruster (3B), Miller (1B) & Bernie Blasius (3B)

follow Yowler's HR with RBI safeties;

B#2 gets on board in 3rd with 3 on Pepper Martin's 2-out

RBI single & Ken Gerwin's follow-up 2-run triple;

A Michelle Lewis 2-out RBI single in 4th pushes BGN's lead to 9-3;

B#2 strikes for a pair of runs in both 5th & 6th innings

to close gap to with 2 runs;

Travis Ford hits a 2-out, 2 RBI triple in 5th & Kit Keiser

accounts for 2 with a HR in 6th;

Lish McIntosh's 2-out, 2-run HR in 7th caps scoring;

McIntosh & Miller (2B) finish with 4 hits each;

Mike O'Brien lead B#2 with 3 singles;

Yowler, Barbour & Lewis also reach safely 3 times for Naz

G#2:  B#2, 5-3

Ford's 2-out, RBI triple in 4th of middle game breaks

a 1-1 deadlock & gives B#2 lead for good;

Holding a 4-3 cushion entering 8th, Russ Abke gives B#2 some

breathing room with a 2-out, RBI 3-bagger;

Gerwin gives B#2 a 1-0 advantage in 1st with his 2-out,

run-scoring triple, but BGN quickly ties a half frame later

on Barbour's 2-out, RBI 3-sacker;

Martin's RBI single in 4th makes it 3-1 & Gerwin puts

B#2 up by pair in 5th with his 2-out, RBI single;

Naz closes to within a run after posting single tallies

in 5th & 6th on 2-out hits by Armbruster (2B) & Yowler (3B);

O'Brien, Yowler & Ford lead their respective sides

with 3 hits apiece

G#3:  B#2, 11-1

It's all B#2 in finale as hosts manufacture 21 hits, including

5 extra-base hits -- all from bottom of lineup;

A 4-run 1st inning is all B#2 needs to win this one;

Duane Peters (1B), Ford (1B) & John Keiser (2B) all

produce RBI hits with Keiser's 2-out safety bringing in a pair;

B#2 piles on 6 more in 7th on 8 hits as Ford has a bases-loaded

single, John Keiser a 2-run double, Kit Keiser a 2-RBI triple

& O'Brien a RBI single;

Brendan Yowler's 2-out RBI single in 8th breaks shutout;

John Keiser gets his 5th RBI of game in 8th on another

run-scoring deuce;

O'Brien, Peters, Ford & Keiser all notch 3 hits

BGN dips to 16-11; B#2 jumps to 15-12

PM earns 3rd straight series victory after a 4-week slump

G#1:  PP, 4-2

PP takes a 2-0 lead in 2nd on a Julie Williams RBI triple

& a Steve Williams 2-out, run-scoring single;

PM ties game with single tallies in both 6th & 7th;

Paul Spicer hits a bases-loaded single in 6th &

Tom Jividen does same in 7th;

PP wins it in 9th on Alan Troutt's 2-run, walk-off HR

following a Jim Jones lead-off double;

Rick Ward of PM leads both sides with 5 hits, while teammates

Darren Pash & Tom Jividen each have 4;

As a team, PM bangs out 21 safeties;

Jones leads hosts with 3 hits

G#2:  PM, 6-3

PM scores 4 in 1st & never looks back;

Daniel Binion, Spicer, Grace Jividen & Rick Ward all

have bases-loaded singles in opening frame;

Alex Ward adds a RBI single in 2nd & Bob Jividen has a

2-out RBI deuce in 6th to make it 6-0;

PP mounts a mini comeback with 2 in 8th & 1 in 9th,

but falls short by 3 runs;

PP's John Troutt hits a 2-out, 2-run HR in 8th &

Steve Williams belts a lead-off bomb in 9th;

Rick Ward (E) & Bob Jividen (2B) are game leaders

with 4 hits apiece as PM grinds out 20 more safeties

G#3:  PM, 8-2

PM busts loose for a series high 23 hits in finale to

end night with 64, including 14 by Rick Ward & 12 by Pash;

Again, PM gets in front early with 3 in 1st on 2-out RBI

hits by Tom Jividen (2B), Spicer (1B) & Grace Jividen (1B);

A Bob Jividen 2-out RBI double in 5th pushes advantage to 4;

An Alan Troutt 2-out solo HR in 6th gets PP on board, but PM

counters with a 4-spot in 8th, all after 2 outs to start inning;

Bob Jividen hits a RBI 2-bagger, Pash drops in a 2-run HR

(his first regular-season center marker since before 2012-13

when GBSS started keeping comprehensive stats) &

Tom Jividen later hits a RBI triple;

Will Tezak hits a lead-off HR in 8th for PP to close game's scoring;

Rick Ward & Pash shine again with 5 hits each, while

Binion contributes 4;

Tom & Bob Jividen join Pash with 2 RBI for contest

PM moves to 16-11; PP drops to 9-18

SGU narrowly misses sweep to earn 7th series win of campaign

G#1:  SGU, 5-1

A pair of RBI doubles by SGU's Don Young & Jim Bowe

snap a 1-1 tie in 6th inning;

Visitors add 2 more tallies in 7th to put game away;

Gary Evers (2B) & Young (1B) have run-scoring hits in 7th;

John Schulte's 2-out RBI double puts SGU up 1-0 in 3rd,

but a Gary Chamberlain lead-off HR in 5th for NR knots score;

Bob Marsh of SGU leads both sides with 3 doubles

G#2:  SGU, 4-1

Russ Siek's 2-out double gives NR an early lead in 2nd inning,

but it would be only run his team would produce;

SGU responds with a stretch of runs in 3 straight frames to earn win;

Bob Dierker belts a 2-out, 2-run HR in 3rd which proves

to be winning hit, while Gene Fairbanks has a 2-out RBI

double in 4th & Evers hits a bomb to start 5th;

Schulte is top hitter with 3 singles

G#3:  NR, 4-3

Dave Snyder's walk-off RBI double in 9th salvages a series win for

NR after SGU ties game in T-9th on a Charlie Krawetzke

run-scoring deuce with 1 away;

Game features 4 HR -- 2 by each side;

Bowe goes deep with 2 outs in 4th & then Krawetzke hits

a solo blast in 7th;

Snyder puts NR on board in 7th with a 2-out center finder &

Ryan Chamberlain gives his team a short-lived 3-2 advantage

with a 2-out, 2-run bomb in 8th;

Krawetzke ends contest with 3 extra-base hits, including

his 1st double of game in 4th stanza

SGU bumps to 18-9; NR drops to 13-14

Cold spell in finale prevents B#1 from sweeping;

Visitors take 6th series in last 7 weeks

G#1:  B#1, 4-2

B#1 puts a pair of runs on board in 3rd & 4th innings

en route to victory;

Ken Rahe & Mel Karns have 2-out, bases-loaded singles

in 3rd, while Vic Schuerman (3B) & Steve Kreais (1B)

connect for RBI hits in 4th;

BGSM scores 1 in its 4th on Keith Miller's RBI double

& plates another in 6th on a Scott Seeliger 2-out deuce;

Karns leads both sides with 3 hits, while Seeliger

& Roger Hayward produce 2 doubles each for BGSM

G#2:  B#1, 6-3

B#1 breaks a 2-2 deadlock in 3rd with a pair of runs

& never trails again despite BGSM cutting gap to a run in 8th;

Dean Schuerman's 2-out, 2-run double proves to

be winning hit for B#1 in 3rd;

A Jim Fields 2-RBI triple in 2nd gives B#1 an early advantage,

but BGSM immediately ties game with 2 in 3rd on

RBI doubles by Tom Lemmerbrock & Dave Otte;

A lead-off Larry Zimmerman Z-bomb in 8th draws

BGSM within striking distance, but B#1 seals game

in its half of 8th on Harry Reynolds' 2-run HR;

Rahe & Karns again pace B#1 with 3 safeties;

Lemmerbrock has 2 doubles for BGSM

G#3:  BGSM, 2-1

Back-to-back solo HRs in 5th by BGSM's

Marilyn Shepperd & Zimmerman stand as difference in game;

B#1 cuts deficit to 1 run on a Reynolds 2-out bomb

in 7th, but BGSM manages to eke out victory;

Rahe (3B) & Karns get 2 more hits each to finish series with 8 apiece

B#1 climbs to 16-11; BGSM stumbles to 9-18

BG Trinity United (1) at BG Cloverdale (2)

BGC takes 7th series in last 8 weeks

G#1:  BGC, 7-6

Hosts take a 7-3 lead into 9th & hold on as Trinity's 3-run

rally falls just short;

BGC builds a 5-0 advantage after 3 innings on a Seth Peters

solo HR in 1st, a 2-run bomb by Paul Wachter in 3rd &

2-out RBI hits by Jerry Charles (2B) & Ben Peters (1B) soon after;

TUM chips away at lead with a single run in 4th on a Dan Saygers

RBI single & 2 tallies in 6th on Andy Janes' 2-run center marker;

BGC boosts lead to a much-needed 4-run cushion in 8th

on a Jim Meyer 2-out, 2-run HR;

Trinity gets a 2-run triple from Mike Farr in 9th & he scores

with 2 outs on a Janes double who is left stranded to end game;

Saygers is game's top hit man with 3 singles, while Farr

contributes a pair of 3-baggers

G#2:  TUM, 11-5

Trinity pounds out 20 hits en route to middle-game victory

with lead-off man Dave Avery going a perfect 6-for-6;

Bill Bosworth also contributes 4 singles for TUM;

Trailing 4-3 entering B-4th, Trinity scores 5 runs over next 2

innings to put game away;

Farr hits a big bases-loaded triple in 4th;

Mike Ruthenberg strokes a 2-out, 3-sacker in 5th &

scores on a Bosworth single to push lead to 8-4;

Trinity gets 3 mores tallies in 8th (to go up by 7) on RBI hits by

Gary Manning (2B), Ruthenberg (1B) & Avery (1B) before

Meyer ends game's scoring for BGC in 9th with a lead-off HR;

Farr starts scoring for TUM with a 2-out, RBI triple in 1st;

Ruthenberg has a RBI double in 2nd & Bosworth plates

him with a single;

Ralph Aufdenkamp's 2-out HR gives BGC its

1st lead at 2-1 in 2nd, but it lasts but a half inning;

BGC ties game at 3-3 in 3rd when Charles comes through

with a 2-out triple & then BGC gets upper hand for last

time in 4th on a Meyer RBI triple;

Farr finishes game with 4 RBI & teammate Ruthenberg has 3;

Ben Peters & Rick Traver have 3 singles each for BGC

G#3:  BGC, 7-6

Hosts come through with another 1-run victory in finale

as Wachter's 2-out, 2-run HR in 8th rallies BGC to win after a Manning lead-off bomb in top of frame breaks a 5-5 deadlock;

BGC actually builds a seemingly comfortable 5-0 lead after

3 innings, but Trinity storms back to tie it in 7th on

Dana Kratzer's 2-run HR;

Avery begins comeback bid with a 2-run, 2-out triple

in 4th & Manning belts a 2-out HR in 6th to draw within a pair;

Ben Peters plates BGC's 1st run with a 2-out triple in 2nd;

A big 4-run stanza in 3rd is fueled by 2-out RBI safeties by

Craig Kleine (2B), Charles (2B), Ron Merritt (3B) &

Peters (1B), who finishes game with 4 hits;

Avery adds 4 more hits to his ledger & ends series with 12

BGTUM drops to 13-14; BGC climbs to 17-10
