 BG Nazarene sweeps Salem Grace United 

 to take over 1st place at mid-way point; 

 Bethlehem #1 draws even with 

 Pemberville Methodist & SGU for 2nd place; 

 BG Cloverdale drops to 5th, but is 

 still only 2 games out of top spot; 

 8 league teams have winning records with 

 4 owning 20 or more wins 

 

Pemberville Methodist (1) at Bethlehem #1 (2)

Red-hot B#1 wins 8th series in last 9 weeks;

PM sees 4-week winning streak snapped in extra-inning loss

G#1:  B#1, 5-1

Down 1-0 before throwing a dart, B#1 strikes for 4 runs

never trails again;

Mel Karns & Dean Schuerman both knock in 2 for game

with Schuerman hitting a 2-run HR in 1st;

Luther Henline & Karns have RBI doubles in opening frame;

Karns adds a bases-loaded single in 8th;

Rick Ward has 5 hits for PM, while Darren Pash has 4;

PM opens game with 4 straight singles with Tom Jividen's

hit plating team's only run of game

G#2:  PM, 16-2

PM lays down hammer in middle game, striking

for 16 runs on 34 hits;

All of PM's runs come after 3rd inning, including 30 of its safeties;

Ward & Pash both turn in 7-hit games;

Paul Spicer adds 6 hits, while Bob Jividen &

Tom Jividen each have 5;

Spicer drives home 5 on consecutive singles;

Tom Jividen has 4 RBI with his run-scoring double

in 4th opening team's offensive floodgates;

PM's 8-run, 11-single 5th ices game;

B#1 scores twice in 9th on RBI hits by Steve Kreais (2B)

& Ken Rahe (3B) to spoil shutout

G#3:  B#1, 9-7 (14 innings)

Hosts salvage win with extra-inning walk-off;

Jim Fields connects with a 2-RBI triple in 14th for win;

Fields also hits a grand slam in 3rd & finishes contest with 6 RBI;

Karns has a 2-run triple in 6th to rally team to 7-6 lead;

Spicer's 2-out, 3-bagger in 8th knots score at 7;

Dave Helm leads B#1 with 4 hits (RBI);

PM's top 4 in lineup (Ward, Bob Jividen, Pash & Tom Jividen)

collect 4 hits apiece;

Spicer has 3 RBI, while Pash & Tom Jividen have 2 each;

PM out hits B#1, 23-21, & ends night with 74 safeties

PM falls to 20-13; B#1 moves to 20-13

NR gets 1st series victory in 5 weeks

G#1:  BGC, 6-4

Trailing by 2 in 9th with 2 outs & none aboard, BGC rallies

for walk-off victory on Ralph Aufdenkamp's 3-run HR

G#2:  NR, 7-3

Down 3-0, NR comes back to win thanks to 4 HRs;

Dave Snyder ties it with a 3-run center strike in 4th;

Gary Chamberlain puts ahead for good with a solo blast in 6th;

Adam Snyder (2-run) & Lyle Schroeder (solo) go yard in 8th

G#3:  NR, 5-0

Schroeder drives in 2 on a pair of doubles & Rich Lopez

(2-2B, RBI) bangs out 4 hits for winners

NR goes to 16-17; BGC dips to 19-14

Zion wins 4th straight series to move above .500

G#1:  ZL, 3-0

Zion scores 3 in 1st & that's all team would need;

Rick Nelson hits a 2-run double & Andy Lang

follows with a RBI single

G#2:  ZL, 5-3

Zion again strikes in opening inning on 2-out, RBI hits

by Mike Moenter (3B) & Nelson (1B), but BGSM

rallies to take 3-2 lead after 4 innings;

Marilyn Shepperd hits a 2-out, solo HR for BGSM in 3rd &

Tom Lemmerbrock (3B) & Cheryl Kurfess (1B) come

through with 2-out, run-scoring safeties in 4th;

Zion pulls out win with 3 in 8th on consecutive RBI

hits by Curt Juergens (1B), Moenter (1B) & Nelson (2B)

G#3:  BGSM, 4-1

Guests never trail in this one, breaking a 2-1 game

open with single runs in 8th & 9th;

Larry Weiss has a 2-out RBI double in 1st for BGSM &

Mark Henning makes it 2-0 with his 2-out, RBI triple in 4th;

Kurfess hits a lead-off HR in 8th & Henning knocks

in squad's final run with a single in 9th;

Dick Eilert drives in team's lone run with a 2-out deuce in 7th;

Eilert (2B) & Brian Burrell each have 3 hits for Zion,

but remainder of lineup reaches safely only 3 other times

BGSM moves to 10-23; Zion climbs to 17-16

Bethlehem #2 (1) at BG Trinity United Methodist (2)

Trinity rallies to win 7th series of 1st half

G#1:  B#2, 1-0

Back-to-back doubles to Ken Gerwin & Travis Ford to

start 6th results in game's only run;

B#2 collects 10 of its 21 hits on night in opener

G#2:  TUM, 5-1

Trinity adds to a 1-0 lead in 8th with 4 runs to put game away;

Brad Kratzer (3B), Dana Kratzer (1B), Dave Avery (3B) &

Bill Bosworth (1B) have RBI hits in big inning;

Dana Kratzer drives in TUM's 1st run with a RBI double in 4th;

John Keiser's solo HR in 8th accounts for B#2's lone tally

G#3:  TUM, 6-0

Avery records 4 hits, including a 2-out, RBI triple in 3rd;

Trinity's 5 runs in initial frame is more than enough for win;

Mike Farr (2-RBI 3B), Brad Kratzer (1B), Dana Kratzer (3B)

& Gary Manning (1B) all produce run-scoring safeties in 1st

B#2 drops to 17-16; Trinity ups mark to 17-16

SR ends 1st half with 2nd series win of season

G#1:  SR, 8-3

SR breaks a 3-3 deadlock in 10th with 5 big runs, capped

by a bases-loaded triple by Fred Swihart;

Lori Dewyre also knocks in 3 for game for visitors

G#2:  SR, 6-4

Jeremy Orth ends it with a 1-out, 2-RBI triple in 9th;

Orth drives in 4 runs for game on a pair of 3-baggers;

Dewyre plates 2 more in win;

Jigs Sandwisch goes 5-for-5

G#3:  PP, 3-0

Alan Troutt accounts for game's only runs with a solo HR

in 2nd & a 2-run bomb in 4th

SR improves to 10-23; PP falls to 11-22

BGN registers 3rd sweep of season, knocking SGU out of 1st;

SGU's run atop standings ends at an impressive 6 weeks

G#1:  BGN, 10-4

Up 4-2 after 5 innings, BGN salts game away with

2 in 6th & 4 in 7th;

Kevin Miller (2-2B, RBI) has 5 hits for Naz;

Mike Barbour drives in 3 on a double in 1st, a triple

in 3rd & a single in 7th;

Barbour finishes contest with 4 hits & BGN has 23 as team;

Jody (2B) & Brendan Yowler each knock in pair of runs;

John Schulte has 4 of SGU's total hits & drives in run;

Bob Dierker has SGU's other 3 RBI on a double in 5th

& a 2-run bomb in 7th

G#2:  BGN, 9-8 (10 innings)

Barbour's 2-out, walk-off RBI double in 10th wins it for Naz,

scoring Jody Yowler who doubles shooter before;

SGU mounts a tremendous 4-run 9th to tie game at 8;

Jim Bowe (3B), Dierker (3B), Don Young (1B) &

Bob Marsh (3B) all come through with RBI hits

with final 3 coming with 2 outs;

Marsh drives in 4 on 4 hits -- a triple in 1st, a single in 3rd,

a double in 8th to go along with his 9th inning triple;

Young has 2 RBI, including a RBI 3-sacker in 3rd;

Jody Yowler (2B), Barbour (2-2B, 3B) & Lish McIntosh

(2B) all have 4 hits for BGN;

Barbour ends game with 3 RBI, while Brendan Yowler,

McIntosh & Mickey Gore have 2 apiece;

Gore' 2-run deuce in 1st caps a 5-run inning;

BGN leads 8-3 after 4 before SGU chips away & ties game

G#3:  BGN, 14-3

BGN caps a big offensive night with 22 more safeties (9 for

extra bases) en route to 33 runs & 63 hits for series;

BGN jumps out to another quick start, amassing an 11-0

advantage after 2 1/2 innings of play;

BGN scores 4 in 1st, 5 in 2nd & 2 more in 3rd before

SGU cracks scoreboard on a Bowe solo HR in B-3rd;

BGN scores 11 times during 1st frames on night;

McIntosh leads attack with 4 hits (2B) & 3 RBI;

Barbour (3B) also drives in a trio of runners as does

Mark Armbruster (2B, 3B);

Brendan Yowler (2B, 3B) chips in 2 RBI;

Bowe ends with 3 hits, including another RBI hit (3B) in 5th;

Charlie Krawetzke hits a solo HR in 9th to end scoring

BGN vaults to 21-12; SGU slips to 20-13
